If you have Express Scripts medical insurance then you may be asking yourself that very question. Express Scripts has decided to no longer pay for prescriptions filled at any Walgreens or New York City area Duane Reade pharmacies. If this is the pharmacy you have used in the past then you will no longer be able to do so. Walgreens and Express Scripts had a contract up until December 31, 2011 at which time it expired. Walgreens pharmacies tired to negotiate with Express Scripts to renew their contract but Express Scripts decided to terminate it.

So, it all boils down to, as of January 1, 2012, you can no longer have prescriptions filled at Walgreens pharmacies and expect Express Scripts insurance to pay for it. Walgreens understands this is a huge inconvenience for their customers. In order to lessen this burden they have decided to provide a special discount on the Prescription Savings Club at Walgreens annual membership. For only $10 per year a family including the spouse, dependents 22 years of age and younger and their pets can join. Individuals may join for only $5 per year.

By joining the Prescription Savings Club at Walgreens you will receive discounted prices as well as being able to save on more than 8,000 brand-name medications including generic medications, discounted flu shots, your pet’s prescriptions and diabetic supplies. To get more detailed information follow them at Walgreens on Twitter and Walgreens on Facebook.
